WhY I do it
When people ask me why I like shooting weddings, I think the best and simplest answer I can offer is that they’re fun and people want you around. If I were to elaborate a little more, I might add that a wedding day is one of the happiest days of many people’s lives and it’s an incredible feeling to be able to channel that happiness and energy into my work.
Aside from the ecstatic emails and texts from couples after they’ve gotten to view their full day in photos, the best compliments I get come from family members and friends who stop to thank me for my professionalism and to let me know that they can tell how hard I’m working and how much I care about the photos and the people I’m working for..
How I do It
Being the planner type myself, I work with couples well in advance to make sure that the timeline of the day is successful, as stress-free as possible and how they envision it to be. That being said, I think one of my biggest assets, aside from the photography part, is my ability to not get rattled and to find a way to create beautiful photos even when unforeseen events threaten or alter our plans. I credit this to an 18-year career in photojournalism that brought me into contact with incredible people, amazing events and some hectic situations.

Basketball……………(Wait, What?)
In addition to shooting for various magazines in Lawrence, Kansas City and Topeka, I still shoot Kansas basketball for The Lawrence Journal-World and KUSports.com and have done so since 2005. You’re probably wondering what in the heck does college basketball have to do with weddings. In short, nothing, but it’s also fun and it keeps me Tack sharp ;)

When not shooting photos, I spend as much of my time as possible with my beautiful wife Louise and my two kids Olive and Bruce in an old house in a historic neighborhood that’s also kinda like having a third child that won’t stop asking for snacks. I really enjoy a good craft beer from time to time and playing basketball with other people who aren’t any good and should probably just hang it up already.
